Archimedes-Maschinen gehören zu den Vierspezies-Staffelwalzen-Maschinen deren Produktion 1906 begonnen Metall, Kunststoffwurde. Ein elektrischer Antrieb ist seit etwa 1922 erhältlich. Modell L gehörte zu den mit einer Hand bedienbaren automatisierten Maschinen, die seit etwa 1930 hergestellt wurden. Seit etwa 1938 erhielt die Baureihe verkürzte Multiplikation, was die Modellbezeichnung vM erklärt.
