Johann Adrian Alexander Bylandt-Melden (1657-1717) war der Sohn von Johann Heinrich von Bylandt (1631 - 1715) und Marie Ernestine de Haberu de Cesse (geb. 1637) und war Herr zu Melden, was dieser Linie ihren Namen gab.
Bernhard Graf von Bylandt-Rheydt (1905 - 1998) war sein direkter Nachfahre. Von ihm erwarb das Museum Anfang der 1960er-Jahre die meisten Gemälde der Mitglieder der Familie Bylandt, die hier zu sehen sind. Auch das Porträt von Johann Adrian Alexander gehört dazu.
