Das unscharfe und zum Teil doppelt exponierte Bild zeigt wahrscheinlich einen Teil der Gracht Rapenburg im Zentrum von Leiden. Links sind drei- bis vierstöckige Häuser mit hohen Fenstern zu sehen, auf der Straße erkennt man schemenhaft mehrere Personen. Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen reiste wohl am 14.01.1905 von München nach Leiden um dem dort lehrenden Professor Hendrik Antoon Lorentz die Professur für theoretische Physik an der Universität München anzubieten. Dieser lehnte das Angebot aber später ab. W.C. Röntgen reiste am 23.01. von Amsterdam aus über Köln zurück nach München.
